Gibson Kiggins, Graduate Intern
Hi, I’m Gibson, a Graduate Intern here at Branches of Growth!
My journey to counseling began after my own experience of grief as a child. As a result of this experience, I wanted to learn what impacts resilience through difficult life circumstances and use that information to help others. This led me to obtain a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Cognitive Science from SUNY Geneseo in 2015.
Since then, I’ve worked as a preschool teacher and volunteered in children’s ministry while raising two children of my own. In each of these roles, I found that I loved working alongside children to creatively help them grow their individual skill sets, self-esteem, and resilience, while being sensitive to pacing and validating emotions. I plan to do much of the same for people of all ages through counseling.
As a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at SUNY Fredonia and Intern at Branches of Growth, I look forward to collaborating with and learning from each client on their journey. My goal is to utilize my natural curiosity and empathy, rather than judgment, to gain a holistic understanding of each client. With this understanding and continued attunement, therapy can be individualized to fit the client’s goals, respect client’s preferences, and foster growth.
I’d be honored to work alongside you.
